Peter Callesen is an artist who creates sculptures out of paper. He draws 2D images and gives them life by allowing them to leave the picture plane. This creates a 3D sculpture while showing the remnants of the world they came from. Almost. He does not fully cut all edges of the ground, thus binding them forever to the paper. These pieces make me think of freedom, longing, fate vs. choice, dreams vs. reality. Beautifully tragic work.
Anyway, if this tickles your ivories he has a show at Perry Rubenstein in downtown LA until January 17.
