Painting with light is a really fun exercise to do when you are learning photography. I always have my students experiment with it and they have a great time with it. You basically just move light around (flashlight, etc) during a long exposure. The results can be really great.
Often people get stuck on the whole thrill of it and just make lines or write their names. But here are some fun examples that take it a bit further.
